A Mid-Facelift lifts the cheek fat up onto the cheekbones – where it used to be when you were young. This helps to flatten the cheek folds around the mouth, giving a younger, softer and happier look. It helps take away that “ down-in-the-mouth” look. A mid-facelift makes you look younger; a facelift less saggy.
The mid-facelift raises the outer eyebrows, as well as giving you the look of having more full cheekbones, just as you do when you smile. The lift also raises up the corners of the mouth, taking away a sad look.
When a mid-facelift is combined with a traditional facelift, all of the facial tissues are repositioned, and that allows for the most rejuvenation, or improvement.
The surgery is done through an incision in the temple scalp. The incision can be hidden, so the only outward signs of the surgery are the improvements to your looks.
The surgery is usually done under a general anesthetic with you asleep, day surgery at the hospital, or you can have IV sedation with an anesthesiologist, that is your choice.
This is a lot of surgery, and you will be bruised and swollen for at least two weeks, and possibly longer. So you should plan on two to four weeks for full recovery, the longer the better, and count on a month before resuming preoperative activities.
