Breast Gynecomastia

Fullness of the male breast is known as Gynecomastia, a very common condition. Normally there is no known cause, and can be on one or both sides.

Most patients want a flatter breast, something not so full, less obvious. I prefer to remove the breast tissue with suction, and for this I use a powered tube which contains a rotating blade which shaves off pieces of breast tissue as they are sucked into the tube; breast tissue is usually too tough to be removed by just the normal suction procedure used to remove fat. But suction is used on the surrounding areas to smooth out the whole chest wall.

This is your biggest risk – removing just the right amount of tissue and leaving the area smooth.

The operation is done as day-surgery, someone to drive you, home at noon. You will be asleep, wearing an elastic compression vest after surgery to prevent fluid accumulating. I do not use suction drains. Your responsibility is to remain quiet for one month after surgery, keeping your pulse down and NOT exercising. You can shower, walk, act very normal, return to work whenever you want – just keep your pulse down for a month – otherwise you will swell and develop fluid in the operative site. One month later you will be completely healed.

Consultations are by appointment, on Mondays and Thursdays, 7:30am - 3pm
