Breast Augmentation, Breast Enlargement

The operation to make your breasts larger is a breast augmentation. This is done by lifting up all of your breast tissue, making a space behind the breast tissue, and placing an implant. The amount of soft tissue you have to cover the implant determines how well hidden the implant will be. So if you are thin, it is possible to put the implant underneath your muscle as well, to have more soft tissue covering. Usually you can be whatever size you want to be. I have been doing this operation now for many years, and it still ranks as one of the most successful of procedures, as judged by the satisfaction of patients.

I do the operation in a variety of ways, and during your consultation we will spend much of the time deciding what you want and what suits you best. While you can have what you want, always remember that the way you are now is what determines the end result; and the more you try to change, the less ”natural” you will be. What we usually try and do is end up with a result that suits your body build, is in proportion for you, and is what you desire.

The incision can be placed wherever your preference is, usually in the fold under the breast, or in a crease across the areola. If you need more soft tissue coverage over the prosthesis, then it may be best to place it under your pectoral muscle, since this hides the upper part of the implant. This is a tough decision to make, as there are always pros and cons to each way, and I will help you decide. Mostly I prefer the implant on-top-of the muscle as the breast seems to be more natural that way.

The operation is done at the hospital, as an outpatient, usually with you asleep. You will need to have someone drive you, and be with you that day. There is pain for the first day, as your tissue stretches, but this gets less each day, and is well tolerated by about 3 days. For most activities you are able to look after yourself, and return to work in a few days. You need to give yourself time to heal, so while you can shower and lift and move your arms and be reasonably normal the day after surgery, do not plan to exercise for 3-4 weeks.

Consultations are by appointment, on Mondays and Thursdays, 7:30am - 3pm
