Brow Lift (Endoscopic)

A browlift operation can be done with only small incisions in the scalp. While the coronal browlift removes a strip of scalp, thus lifting the brow, that leaves a long scar in the scalp. With the use of an endoscope, we do the same operation through several small incisions. By not removing skin, the brow is not lifted as much, but by freeing the brows from the underlying bone, and weakening the muscles which pull the brows down, the natural muscles which elevate the brows do so in a natural unimpeded way. This is what an endoscopic browlift does – lifts the brows using small incisions in the scalp, smooth the frown lines, and lessen the descent of the brow when frowning.

The operation is done under either local anesthetic with you awake, or when you are asleep under general anesthetic. It may be done either in the office operating room, or as an outpatient in the hospital.

The postoperative recovery will be the same as for the full coronal browlift, with one to two weeks of swelling and bruising, and slow resolution over several months of all the effects of surgery. Some patients, however, may have numbness and/or swelling for many months. And some patients complain of thinning or loss of hair around the incisions.

At the same time as the browlift, additional surgery can also be performed through the endoscope. The surgery can be continued down onto the cheeks where the fullness under the eyes on the cheeks can be lifted and smoothed out some. This is called a “Mid-Face-Lift” and is used to treat the sagging tissue around the mouth, giving a younger looking face, smoother, with more fullness up high along the cheek bones, without leaving any visible scars.
