BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injection of dilute botulism protein which can relax muscles. When a very small amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the expression muscles of the face, the expression is lessened. With the muscles not pulling and bending the skin, the lines and creases created by that skin folding, will gradually smooth. This is the easiest way of smoothing the lines on the face.

When the frown muscles are injected, you are less able to frown, and usually will not frown at rest. The frown lines will be smoother. Those lines can also be injected with an injectable filler, which further smooths them. BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be used for other expression muscles, and those lines smoothed and they too, can be injected with a filler.

Usually you have several injections of dilute BOTOX® Cosmetic into the expression muscles at one time, so a smooth gradual effect is obtained. Perhaps the main risk is the possible spread of the toxin into muscles where you do not want the paralyzing effect – such as into an eyelid, which would give a dropped eyelid. Or from the fold by the nose, down onto the cheek, to give a weakened smile on that side. And that unwanted effect could also last for several months.

Most of the patients having BOTOX® Cosmetic injections do it because it is less troublesome than surgery, with almost no recovery time. They are prepared to repeat the procedure several times a year, as it becomes necessary.

Consultations are by appointment, on Mondays and Thursdays, 7:30am - 3pm
